First days

It's Sunday, October 18, 2020 I've been here for two weeks! First calm day, no contractors, cleaning people and I have no car. Loving it! I listened to the Tabernacle Choir and did a Church lesson on my own since there is no Church while we are in Covid lockdown. Looking at the ocean and watching the waves is a blessing! I'm really missing Chris, because all of our vacations here for 14 years were so much fun.  Here's the recap.

Monday October 5, Can't believe I am actually here. Dana has been busy getting me signed up for everything and cleaned my apartment! It is 90 degrees and 70% humidity...I meet wonderful Sergio Cota who is going to be my amigo nuevo. He is the gardener here. He's been moving furniture for me and taking out boxes and stuff I don't want. He even lets me practice my Spanish. Dana calls Rosa Marquez who energetically in this heat moves furniture and cleans out the cupboards. It's so hot that I just sit in a melted puddle smiling. I'm here!

Tuesday, Dana introduces me to my contractor Jose Carrillo who lived in the US as a contractor for 30 years. He was deported and lives here now with his wife. His children are US Citizens and live in the States. He immediately fixes my air conditioner which makes a huge difference. After everyone leaves, I jump in the pool which is about 85 degrees just from the summer sun. Feels wonderful. And

I've made friends with the local expats here. Elaine and Lanny, Tim and Viv, Roger and Lynn and Duff and Lynn. They can't believe I'm here by myself! Well, neither can I. They are full of great suggestions. The next few days flew by, I rented a car and so I've been going to all the stores I need! Artisanos made a lot of money from me. I bought tiles, dishes and a carved coffee table and a Mexican mirror for the living room.

Everything is in cash here. I never carry cash, now I go to ATMs and $500 in pesos appears like monopoly money. It's a good thing I have two cards since you can only take out $500 at a time per card. Yes! I am spending that much money. Painters are coming tomorrow.   The  tile/cabinet contractor  will rip out the bottom cabinets to make a new base for the new tile.  Wish I had enough for new cabinets but  I'm getting new cabinet pulls to upgrade.
This place is somewhat furnished, but it is amazing all the little stuff you need.  Plus I will have to cook here. NO TV dinners.  So I ordered pots and pans.  I can get American Amazon here but there is a 28% charge to have it delivered to Mexico.  Still it is often several hundreds of dollars cheaper to do that.

Kids are surfing and it is fun to watch them.  Jade, Carmen and Savannah will love this.

  2. Wow, that wood table/chest thing is beautiful. It seems like you are getting it all into shipshape order. How long do you think you'll be staying each year?
